LATEST PROJECTS

While obtaining my Graduate Degree at Michigan State University, I have completed some projects that I would like you all to see. These projects helped me to understand and grasp what it meant to aid students based on their own needs. In order to aid students successfully, you have to be able to create effective lesson plans, incorporate resources and technologies into the classroom, crtique and review resources that you want to use before introducing them to students and lastly, study your students and provide suggesstions based on their own individual needs. In order to view each project, click on the picture next to it. From there you would be linked to a PDF version of the project. Enjoy!!!

Project | Two Students - One Lesson on Literacy

In one of my courses while obtaining my Master's of Education degree, I was required to complete a literacy lesson where I taught two different students the same literacy lesson. In the lesson I timed both students for three 1-minute intervals where they read as many CVC words as they could in each round. During the lesson, my hypothesis was that during each round, the students would be able to read more and more words as the rounds went on. My goal of the lesson was to show that by practicing fluency through reading games, students could increase the number of words read per minute, therefore increasing their fluency rate. By clicking on the library picture on the left, you will be linked to my Fluency Literacy Project and the results I received from each student! Enjoy.

Project | Math Resource Evalution

In a different course during my Master's of Education Degree I was required to evaluate a math resource that could be beneficial to elementary students in practicing specific math skills listed withing the State of Michigan's Math Common Core Standards. I chose to evalutate the website Math Playground as a tool that Elementary Teachers, Students, and Parents could use to practice skills such as Subtraction, Addition, Counting, and more. Click on the picture to the left and you will be linked to my evaluation.

Project | Math Website

As a final Showcase of my graduate work, I had the pleasure of creating a Math Resource Website. I am still very new to creating websites and so this website is still in the works 1.5 years later. While viewing this site, educators, parents, and students will see different websites and apps that students can use to practice specific math skills from grades K-2. Each website or app has an evaluation form attached for specific details on why I suggested each resource. Take a look at the site by clicking on the picture to the left.

Project | My Critique of Using Rewards as a Way to Get Children to Learn

For one of my courses at Michigan State University, CEP 802, Developing Positive Attitudes Toward Learning, I wrote a paper critiquing the use of rewards in the classroom. Rewards can be both a good and bad way to get your students to learn. If rewards are used inconsistantly, then students may only provide their best work during the times rewards are offered. On the other hand, rewards can motivate students to do their best work in order to receive the gift they are offered. Teachers should use rewards sparingly and with good judgement.

Project | Distracted Rosie

Another project I completed for, CEP 802, Developing Positive Attitudes Toward Learning, was a Project titled "Distracted Rosie". "Rosie" was a student I had in my Kindergarten classroom for the beginning of the 2015-2016 School Year. It seem that Rosie was always distracted. She would constantly look around the classroom during instruction, she would hum during reading time, and it was hard for her to start tasks on her on. I studied Rosie's behaviors and offered suggestions on how to approach her distractions in order to help her focus in school more.

Project | Analyzing Student Data - Sarah

In my TE 842, Elementary Reading Assessment Instruction course, one of my assignments was to analyze a student named Sarah literacy assessments. Based off Sarah's answers, I was to gauge what literacy stage she was in, what problems she had while reading, and what suggestions I had that could aid her to improve her reading from there on.

Project | Analyzing Student Data - William

In that same TE 842 course, another student i analyzed, was a student named William. Just as I did with Sarah, I took a look at his literacy assessments. William and Sarah differed greatly. William had more trouble with his reading. William was gauged as beloe level and needed more support. I suggested different techniques that I would use for William to become succeddful at overcoming his literacy obstacles.

Project | Book Review - Words Their Way

Another project I completed for TE 842 was a book review for" Words their way: Word study for phonics, vocabulary, and spelling instruction (Sixth ed.)" by Donald Bear. I really liked this book. It offers different ways for teachers to study words with their students. Different word study activities include making words, literacy centers, and etc.
